Barsa-Kelmes Island, Kazakhstan

Once, this was an island but over time, the water drained away and it became a military testing site where biological and chemical weapons were tested. Its name, “Barsa-Kelmes,” means “the place of no return.” It got this name because it is considered a place of time travel.

The locals believe that anyone or any group that went there returned after many years, but upon returning they felt as if they had only been gone for 2 or 3 days. It may sound strange, but this is why it is called a mysterious place and it has now been closed to the public. It is also said that any GPS or compass devices you take there will stop working which indicates that there is some kind of energy there that is truly mysterious.
