World’s Fastest Supersonic Passenger Jet is here..Boom Supersonic Aerospace is a company that is planning to create a supersonic passenger jet, with a maximum speed of 1800 km/h, which as you can imagine, will be much faster than today’s planes. Making it the fastest passenger plane in the world.
First, let’s understand what supersonic means. It refers to any object, like an aircraft, moving faster than the speed of sound which is roughly 760 miles per hour (1,225 km/h) at sea level. The first supersonic flight took place on October 14, 1947, by U.S. Air Force Major Chuck Yeager. At that time, we only knew about normal planes but the test flight had a speed of about 1,080 km/h and that day is considered the biggest day in aviation history.
Following this, in 1976 the first commercial Concorde flight was completed from London to Bahrain. However, that’s all in the past. You might wonder if these jets are so fast, why haven’t they been brought to the market yet? The simple answer is cost and fuel. Yes, these supersonic jets are much more expensive and consume significantly more fuel compared to normal jets or planes. Because of this, it became quite difficult for companies to make them commercially viable and various companies are still searching for ways to make them affordable.
The big news is that Boom Supersonic Aerospace, an aerospace company is working on creating a commercial supersonic jet, and the project will be called Overture. The company claims that they will complete the plane’s development by 2029 and bring new technology to the market. This company will work on the issues that arose in the past and aim to create an affordable supersonic plane in the near future.
Features of the Plane
- The length of the plane will be 201 feet and the height will be 19 feet. As for its capacity it will be able to fly with up to 88 passengers at a time.
- The speed of this plane has not yet been officially defined but sources suggest that it could range from 1,300 to 2,000 km/h.
- The plane’s range will be 7,800 km meaning it will be able to easily cover long routes.
- The fuel issue of the past won’t be a problem here, as this plane will use sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), which is environmentally friendly and reduces the carbon footprint. SAF will make the plane more eco-friendly.
- A major feature is its engine. The plane will have a three-engine configuration, and the engine design will be developed through a partnership with Rolls-Royce. The engines will be optimized to be both efficient and environmentally friendly at supersonic speeds.
Why Do We Need This Supersonic Jet?
In today’s world, we want everything that can make our daily schedules and work easier. This plane can provide us with some great conveniences.
- Faster travel will improve global connectivity.
- Business growth will definitely be better.
- We will get a luxury and premium travel experience, and perhaps much more in the future. But we’ll only know the full potential once World’s Fastest Supersonic Passenger Jet hits the market.
