India’s First Hyperloop Project
We have traveled by many different modes of transportation, such as buses, trains, taxis, and planes. But in the coming future another mode of transportation is going to be introduced which is the Hyperloop. So, exactly what is Hyperloop? It is a high-speed transportation system that uses magnetic levitation to pass pods through a low-pressure tube. Pods, like the compartments in a train, are what Hyperloop uses. In simple terms, it will be like a train that runs inside a tube instead of on a track, and like a train, it will have pods (compartments) that will move using magnetic levitation.
Now, India is preparing to create a new future for transportation. With the help of IIT Madras, India plans to build the world’s longest Hyperloop. Recently, in December 2024, a 422m track of this Hyperloop was successfully tested. Its maximum speed could be up to 1200 km/h and it is being said that it will be faster than an airplane. At the same time, it will consume less energy and according to the latest news, the Railway Ministry has granted IIT Madras an additional 1 million in funding for the continuation of the project.
A single Hyperloop pod can carry 28 to 40 passengers. Like a train, there will be no stops except at the start and end stations. One proposed route is between Delhi and Jaipur, which is 350 km and this could be completed in just 30 minutes. In the future, plans are being made for four main routes, including Mumbai to Pune, Delhi to Mumbai, Chennai to Bangalore, and Amritsar to Delhi, which will connect major cities.
Along with India, America and Canada are also working on these projects but currently, India has completed its testing and in this matter, India has moved ahead of all. Many countries are now watching India closely, and it will be interesting to see what technology India uses in this project.
What makes Hyperloop special:
- Speed: This is its biggest feature. It is much faster than other modes of transport and will cover greater distances in less time.
- Technology: The technology used to build this is quite different, utilizing electric pods that consume significantly less energy for greater efficiency.
- Environmental Benefits: The project will run on fossil-free energy sources, reducing pollution to a great extent.
- Traffic and Delay: Thanks to this system, we won’t have to deal with traffic jams or transportation delays.
- Safety: The design of Hyperloop is very safe, as it’s an enclosed system and the chances of road or rail accidents are significantly reduced.
- Comfortable Travel: The ride will be smooth and comfortable providing passengers with a relaxed journey.
- Noise Pollution: The design of Hyperloop will generate very little noise preventing disturbances in surrounding areas.
After knowing all this, it seems that this will be a huge globally attention-grabbing project and will provide a lot of benefits. Once it becomes publicly available we will get more information about it.
