In this world, everything has a limit beyond which it ends, but humans continue to push those limits further. Anyway, today we will learn about the world’s largest plane, Antonov An-225 Mriya, which is the world’s largest cargo plane. It was designed and manufactured by Antonov Design Bureau in Ukraine in 1988 and brought to the market.
What was the original purpose of the Antonov An-225?
Its primary job was to transport the Buran space shuttle, which was used by space agencies. The Soviet Union’s Buran program was a space shuttle program, and this plane was specially built for transporting the Buran shuttle.
When the Buran program ended, the plane was quickly repurposed into a heavy-lift cargo aircraft, capable of transporting any kind of heavy vehicles or loads from one country to another. However, the unfortunate news is that this plane is no longer in use, as it was severely damaged due to the attack on Ukraine in 2022. At the same time, Antonov Design Bureau has claimed that they can repair the plane and make it operational again.
Features of the Antonov An-225?
Talking about the features of this plane, its length is approximately 275 feet, and its height is 59 feet. This plane can take off with a weight of 705 tons(including fuel and other operational requirements). Its own weight is 314 tons(without fuel and operational requirements) and its max payload is 250 tons which is equivalent to carrying about 50 normal elephants. Its maximum speed is 850 km/h, and when it comes to range, it can travel up to 4,000 km continuously without any load. With a full load, it can travel up to 1,000 km, depending on the weight.
making cost of of the Antonov An-225?
The total cost of building this magnificent plane was around 300 million dollars at the time of its creation, although the exact cost is still not known.
So, this was all about the world’s largest plane, and we hope that it will be made operational again soon, and we get to see it flying once more.
